Thanks to all who have responded so far! We are still looking for people willing to host a dinner at their house for 6 to 12 Bowen parents, depending on the hosts’ preferences. Feel free to choose a theme or cuisine that you love and want to share with others. Buffets and “sit-down” dinners are both welcome!

Here’s what will happen that night: we’ll all gather at one location for appetizers, and then divide up into small groups for dinner at one of many host houses, and then gather together again as a whole group for dessert and coffee at a third location. You’ll know the first and last locations, but your dinner location and your fellow diners are a mystery until that night! So save the date on Saturday, March 31st, starting at 7 p.m.

We need your help!! We are currently organizing this fantastic evening, so if you can volunteer in any way, please contact suef@aol.com.

Fiddler on the Roof was a big hit!

Thank you to Ms. Denney and the entire 5th grade class, including teachers, for a wonderful performance of Fiddler on the Roof. The 5th graders learned that with teamwork and cooperation, great success can be achieved. If you would like a DVD of the performance, you can bring in this form with payment by tomorrow. Please note that the PTO is not involved with the DVD production or sale.

NewtonSERVES Accepting Project Registrations

NewtonSERVES is currently accepting project registrations for its 12th annual Day of Service to be held Sunday, April 29th, 2012.

Last year, more than 60 projects involving 1,000 volunteers were set up across Newton to benefit local non0profit organizations, schools and public spaces. Newton-based, non-profit organizations, groups of Newton citizens, community service agencies and Newton city agencies can create morning, afternoon or all-day projects in which community volunteers can participate. Typical projects include cleaning up parks, planting gardens, building and painting school bookshelves, spring cleaning at non-profit organizations and helping senior citizens.

On March 10th, 2012, the All Newton Music School will present the ANMS Centennial Gala at the Brae Burn Country Club. Drive a Senior–Make a Friend! Newton at Home, a member organization dedicated to helping Newton seniors age in their own homes, is looking for volunteers who can give rides to seniors. Make a new friend while helping someone get to a doctor’s appointment, the supermarket, a social event or the airport. Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Days in the Arts Summer 2012

The BSO’s popular overnight summer camp is now open for pre-application.
For more than four decades, the BSO has provided thousands of children
throughout Massachusetts with an opportunity to participate in this
multi-arts/creative writing overnight camp in the beautiful Berkshires.

In the summer of 2012, Newton students in grades 5, 6, & 7 are eligible to
participate in Week 6, JUL 30 – AUG 3. Only 15 students from Newton will
be selected to participate by lottery. Pre-applications with details
about the program are available from the music teacher in your school.

Pre-applications must be returned to the Fine Arts Department no later
than 4:00PM on Thursday, March 1st, Newton Public Schools, 100 Walnut

WCT presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella

Watertown Children’s Theatre presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, a blend of fairy tale, musical comedy and of course, magic! WCT’s production features a cast of 4th through 8th graders, along with 1st and 2nd grade Junior Players, including Newton’s own Charlie Booth, Caroline Hoban, Nadia Huber, Amelia Kane, Ava Lyons, Rachel Manning, Sara Manning, Brenai Rosa, Katrina Secinaro, and Anna Weylman-Farwell, directed by Meghan Kenny. Performances are March 16, 7 pm, March 17, 2 pm and 7 pm, and March 18, 2 pm, in the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown. Free Parenting Workshop Series

Do you feel your kids don’t listen to you? Does every request turn into a battle? Do you feel all alone with these issues? Are you ready for a solution? The free parenting series, PARENT MANAGEMENT TRAINING is enrolling now. It will be held for 6 sessions from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays starting on February 28th. The group will meet at the Newton Outpatient Center, 64 Eldredge St, 02458. Pre-registration is required. Call Rachel Nenner-Payton at 617-969-4925 x5958. Co-sponsored by The Newton Partnership and Riverside Community Care. Join other parents of elementary-aged children and a professional facilitator to explore these issues and learn new strategies using Parent Management Training (PMT), an evidence-based program for parents developed by Alan Kazdin, Ph.D., of Yale University’s Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic. PMT has been consistently proven to decrease behavioral problems and increase positive behavior in children. It is highly effective in reducing tantrums, fighting, and disruptiveness. If you have tried other methods of changing your child’s problem behavior and haven’t had any success, then PMT may be the solution for you. This group will be co-led by Rachel Nenner-Payton, LICSW and Elizabeth Pond. Rachel is a senior clinician at Riverside Community Care in Newton. Kripalu yoga at the Waban Library
