Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Days in the Arts Summer 2012

The BSO’s popular overnight summer camp is now open for pre-application.
For more than four decades, the BSO has provided thousands of children
throughout Massachusetts with an opportunity to participate in this
multi-arts/creative writing overnight camp in the beautiful Berkshires.

In the summer of 2012, Newton students in grades 5, 6, & 7 are eligible to
participate in Week 6, JUL 30 – AUG 3.  Only 15 students from Newton will
be selected to participate by lottery.  Pre-applications with details
about the program are available from the music teacher in your school.

Pre-applications must be returned to the Fine Arts Department no later
than 4:00PM on Thursday, March 1st, Newton Public Schools, 100 Walnut
Street, Newton, MA 02460.

LatinSummer Boston

Introducing “LatinSummer Boston,” a two-week summer enrichment program that provides students in grades 1-7 a unique chance to learn about Latin and the classical world! Creative and enthusiastic instructors will provide a wide array of exciting and hands-on activities that introduce students to many varied aspects of classical and conversational Latin, Greco-Roman mythology, and Roman culture and daily life. No prior knowledge of Latin or Classics is required. The popular LatinSummer programs have been offered many times over the past decade in locations across the Mid-Atlantic, South, and Northeast. LatinSummer Boston will run from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm on weekdays from July 23 – August 3 at The Roxbury Latin School. LatinSummer is sponsored by the nonprofit Ascanius: The Classics Youth Institute and The Roxbury Latin School. Registration fees range from $65-$250 per student depending on financial need. Youth pro Musica’s Singing Group and Summer Program

Program Description: After camp is over and before school starts up again, don’t stay home being bored.  Kids aged 8 to 18 who like to sing are invited to attend Youth pro Musica’s Summer Week!  Absent distractions or the pressure of the academic year. young people are free to focus on singing and making new friends.  Singers work with an outstanding staff comprised of professional musicians and educators, led by YpM Artistic Director Robert Barney.  Classes/ensembles focus on vocal technique, ear training and sight-singing, small and large ensemble singing and performance.  (Classes/ensembles are assigned based on age and prior musical experience.)  The week culminates with a Friday evening concert featuring all of Summer Week’s singers.

Camp Fair January 29th

The city is sponsoring its yearly camp fair this year on Sunday January 29 at Newton North from noon to 4pm.

Camps run by Newton Parks & Recreation and the Newton Public Schools (including Newton Community Education and SPACE camp), will be represented at the fair. Come early to reserve your child’s spot in the program of his or her choice for Summer 2012, or to learn more about the many varied options offered in our city.

After-school Circus Arts Program

The School of Rock Boston

The School of Rock Boston has 109 openings for our fabulous 2012 Rock & Roll Boot Camps, but we sell out by May of every year! This year we are looking for guitarists, bassists, singers, drummers, and keyboardists for our one-week day camps in Feb, April, and June/July/August, which include songwriting, recording seminars, and a final concert at a real live rock venue. Ages 7-17 accepted. Camps run 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at our 120 Elm Street location in Watertown and are staffed by instructors from the Berklee College of Music. Newton Youth Players

Registration is now open for the Summer, 2012 Newton Youth Players’ adaptation of the Sound of Music.  
Open to students enter Grades 2-6 in the Fall of 2012, rehearsals run from June 25 – July 18 at the Newton Cultural Center, 225 Nevada St., Newtonville. Performance is on July 17 at 6:00pm. Sponsored by the Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs, Directed by Melissa Bernstein.
