Illustrator Eujin Neilan visits the 1st Grade

Eujin grew up in Korea.  Her illustrations reflect the rich folkloric culture of her native country.  Her program is an intimate, interactive presentation.

In Part I of her program, “Imagine a Dragon,” she carefully defines key words – visualization, inspiration, and information – to describe how she develops her ideas for her illustrations. Eujin presents her original artwork and tells how they were used in folktales from around the globe. Eujin uses gentle audience participation to encourage the students to use their own ideas for illustrating.

In Part II of the program Eujin invites students to close their eyes and imagine they are entering the cave of a dragon. She asks them to imagine what the dragon looks like. Then she has them create their dragon using a handout and mathematical shapes.
